What this tour is about: The Mughal Empire was founded in the 1500’s and lasted for 300 years, becoming in its time, among the richest kingdoms in the world. The Red Fort was the last fort that the Mughals built in the 1600’s, when the fortunes of the empire were rising. The planning and aesthetics of the Red Fort represent the peak of Mughal creativity. The Fort was also the ultimate seat of power, home to a succession of emperors, starting with Shah Jahan. It was lost to the British when the last Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah was defeated by British forces after the first Indian war of independence in 1857. Many grim battles were fought for this fort, the most significant ones being the Siege of Delhi, and the taking of the Kashmir Gate. In June 2007, the Red Fort was declared a UNESCO World Heritage monument. |
Places we will visit: During the tour, you will understand the history of the Red Fort, and get a fascinating glimpse of Mughal court life inside the Fort.
